Why do you need antistatic protective threads
The main risk of static electricity is creation of sparks in an explosive or flammable atmosphere. These sparks can set off an explosion or fire. The danger is greatest when flammable liquids are being poured or transferred. XM FireLine fabrics provide a solution for a broad range of risk environments when exposed to electrostatic charges. Protective workwear should be worn whenever there is a risk that static sparks may ignite inflammable substances such as gas and oil.
Static Control Effect
XM FireLine fabrics with antistatic yarn added to the primary fiber guarantee your safety. A carbon antistatic yarn may be gridlocked or interlocked into the surface of fabric, making it absolutely safe for use in explosive atmospheres. Тo prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) sparks, antistatic fibres safely discharge static electricity eliminating the risk of fire and explosion.
What is Corona discharge effect and how it works on antistatic fabric The static control effect mainly comes from the static neutralization through corona discharge, and also from the static transfer and diffusion (grounding). When two different materials undergo rubbing and peeling off, one of them is charged either positively or negatively. If our fabrics are used under such circumstances, it ionizes the ambient air to generate positive and negative ions, which transfer toward a charged body of reverse polarity to eventually neutralize the electric charge. This process is called the corona discharge. At the same time, residual ions around the conductive part transfer to the grounding object for removal.
Physical Properties of antistatic yarns
XM FireLine antistatic fabrics are made with antistatic carbon yarn. It has tenacity from 1.7 to 5.5 (cN/dtex) depending on model type, elongation of fibers in the range from 30% to 80% and electric resistance 105-1010(Ω/cm).
XM FireLine antistatic fabrics complies with EN 1149 standard for protective clothing with antistatic characteristics. This standard regulates protective clothing against sudden discharges of electrostatic energy. EN 1149-3 test method for measurement of charge decay. The dissipation of electrostatic charge from the surface of materials for garments. A specimen is charged by an induction effect. The induced charge on the test material influence the net field that is observed by a field-measuring probe, positioned above the test surface. The decrease in field is used to determine the half decay time and the shielding factor. This test method is applicable for homogeneous and non homogeneous materials.
The processing temperature, tension and humidity may affect the conductivity of Belltron. For this reason, the static control quality of the final product should be confirmed without fail. Because of Polyester low tolerance to alkali, do not apply strong caustic reduction, frequent caustic treatment, or caustic treatment after bleaching or redyeing.
Nylon Belltron antistatic yarn is less heat-resistant than polyester antistatic yarn. Therefore, do not apply
high-temperature thermosol finish. Also, because of its low tolerance to acid, avoid strong-acid treatment or repeated use of chlorine organic solvent.
XM FireLine flame retardant fabrics with antistatic yarn protect your employers. We offer wide range of flame retardant fabrics for workwear with antistatic yarn of different configurations. All XM FireLine antistatic fabrics have been certified to EN 1149.
